Christ is Counting on You!

There are many opportunities for you to serve in this ministry. All we ask is that you have a willing heart and a spirit of obedience and you can play a crucial role in God's ministry of Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives and Impacting the World. Here's some basic information to help you "get involved."

Be a Team Member

Kairos volunteers unite in the love and grace found only through Jesus Christ. There are two ways to be a Team Member for Kairos Inside at the McConnell Unit. First, any eligible male may apply to serve on the Inside Team. The Inside Team works directly with the 42 Men in White attending the Kairos Weekend. The upcoming McConnell Kairos Weekend can be found on our homepage. Also, there is a great need for anyone (male or female) to serve on the Outside Support Team. The Outside Support Team is logistics behind the scenes and is so vitally important to the ministry.  From preparing food to praying for each Candidate, the Outside Support Team serves with all their hearts. If God is speaking to your heart to serve in prison ministry, this is the opportunity!

Be a Prayer Partner

PRAYER CHAINS
We use colored construction paper, assign a day of the weekend to each page and have fellow believers sign on the paper and cut the paper into strips. We then tape or glue the strips together to form a paper chain. This we call a prayer chain. We attach the chain to the wall and wrap it around the room. It grows each day and sometimes grows to more that 2000 links. This really helps the candidate to see a visual of all those praying for them. They can hold the chain and see the name of someone praying for them. There have been times when the candidate knows the person who signed as a former teacher or family member. It makes a difference to them.

AGAPE
The things we do to show God's love

Table Placemats: We ask children's Sunday School classes to make artistic placemats to place under the dinner plate of the men and women we are ministering to. Very simple and yet very effective way to show they have not been forgotten.

Placemats Guidelines

Printed Agape: We encourage church groups to simply take a piece of paper and draw something of religious symbology on that paper, add a simple word of encouragement or scripture, the name of the group and have the group members sign it (first name only if there is any concern). We will tape this on the wall and the candidates can read and be encouraged to continue. We receive these simple signs of God's love from all over the world. It makes a difference to see how many people are praying for them. There are no particular guidelines for this. Use your imagination.

LETTERS
We pray and then hand write a letter to each and every candidate (42 of them). Very simply we encourage them with scripture and/or thought to continue on in their pursuit of God, His will in their lives, and His blessings. This does not have to be a long letter, maybe a single page. We let them know that they matter in God's eyes.

Be a Cookie Baker

We may need up to 5,000 dozen cookies for a typical Kairos weekend. Do the math... that's 60,000 cookies! Homemade cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God's concern for a group of people who seldom encounter either in the course of their daily lives. Your loving sacrifice will provide "bread" that shines the Light of God's Grace into the darkest corners of a prison unit. May God bless you for the gift of baking! Different institutions have different rules concerning cookies, but if they allow cookies, you can guarantee that they'll allow chocolate chip! Check with your local Kairos community representative for details.

We make homemade cookies for everyone in the prison. Both those who live there and those who work there. That is in the neighborhood of 3000 people. Each person receives a dozen cookies. The whole prison looks forward to this. It is something that only Kairos does and everyone is on their best behavior because if they cause the cookies to not be delivered there will be retribution among the residents. It also makes a difference to the warden and officers because they have fewer problems when we arrive. We always need help with this. If you would like to help by baking cookies for us then please refer to our cookie guidelines.

Be a Ministry Financial Donor

We also want to take this opportunity to allow you to be a part of our efforts to show God's love to these who are also LOVED children of our God. There are expenses that fall on us to be able to do this work. Food for the candidates and the team, team lodging, consumable materials, transportation and shipping just to name a few and we reimburse the church for some of our utilities usage. A typical McConnell Kairos Weekend costs over $20,000 after all expenses are paid. If you would bless us with your support then please follow the instructions that follow and may God Bless you in abundance. All Kairos activities are funded by donations.

If you wish to make a donation by check then make it payable to Kairos of Texas and send it to:
